Annual Community Fete at Moyne Aged Care Plus Centre

The 2018 Moyne Community Fete, hosted by Moyne Aged Care Plus Centre in Canowindra, was a huge success, attracting over 500 people and raising $6,500 for elderly residents. This event is celebrated by the local community, and of course the staff, officers and elderly residents at the Moyne Aged Care facility.

Melissa Delaney, Recreational Activities Officer for Moyne Aged Care Plus Centre, said the community spirit was alive and well at the Fete.

"Around 500 people turned up to our event which is well up on last year's numbers. This is a great way for the local community and the residents and staff of Moyne Aged Care Plus Centre to come together as one."

Each year, various stalls attract huge crowds from the community. This year stalls featured plants, fresh vegetables, trash and treasure items, furniture, barbeque, arts and craft, second-hand clothing and shoes, books, and home-made baked goods such as lamingtons, jams, relish, slices and cupcakes.

Entertainment on the day included performances from local singer Janelle Willis from Stacey's Singing School, the children from Alikenetic Dance Canowindra, and The Salvation Army Band from Orange. Also on display were antique vehicles from Cowra Car Club which attracted attention from the crowd as they passed through the event.

Melissa also said that after months of preparation, they credit much of their success to the support from the local Canowindra community.

"A special thanks goes to Mr Bruce Wright and Mr Steve Flannery for organising the fresh vegetables that were donated by local vegetable growers. Also, thanks to the ladies from Cowra Home Leagues, who kindly donated many of the items on the home-made baked goods stall, and to Major Cathryn Williamson for her craft donations and contributions to the cake stall. Thank you also to the Canowindra Lions Club who cooked up a lovely barbeque. They did a wonderful job, as always."

Melisssa said that the funds raised were only made possible because of the generosity of the people who attended the fete, as well as local, regional and interstate businesses who made donations.

"All funds raised at the Moyne Fete will support the elderly residents of Moyne Aged Care Plus Centre, through meeting their leisure and comfort needs. Thank you to the whole Canowindra community for the wonderful support, from everyone at The Salvation Army Moyne Aged Care Plus Centre."
