We specialise in providing 24-hour care for all older people, including those who are marginalised or at risk of becoming homeless. Our tailored programs are designed to uphold the wellbeing and dignity of our residents and empower them to lead a healthy and happy lifestyle.

James Barker House has spacious, sunlit single rooms with ensuite bathrooms with easy access to communal dining, lounge and activity rooms and courtyards.

Our Services

James Barker House offers 24-hour permanent residential care including memory support, palliative care and behavioural and mental health support; and respite (short-term) care. We also offer eligible residents NDIS services with in-house NDIS support coordination and staff.

We are open to all people requiring residential aged care with a special focus on those who are marginalised. We have programs for those dealing with alcohol, mental and behavioural health issues, and are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless as a result.

Each staff member has undergone reference and security checks to ensure they are fully qualified, experienced and are passionate about working in the aged care sector with special regard for those who are disadvantaged and have complex needs. Emotional intelligence and sensitivity to diversity are other key factors in recruiting our people.

Food plays a huge role in maintaining a healthy and happy lifestyle so we take great care in ensuring that our food is exceptional. Meals are cooked daily onsite by a qualified chef in consultation with the dietician, residents and their families. The menu is rotated regularly to promote choice and take advantage of what is in season. Each meal has a selection of high protein, vegetarian and modified options. We also cater for special dietary and cultural requirements.

Individual nutrition programs can also be organised as required.

The Centre Chaplains play an important role in bringing our holistic model of care to life. Whatever the individual's beliefs, our Chaplains are here to assist them and their families in their spiritual and emotional journey, if they wish.
