Mossman Aged Care Plus Centre Secures $3.4 million funding

The Salvation Army Aged Care Plus has successfully secured $3.4 million in funding from the Regional Jobs and Investment Package (RJIP), to assist with the construction of Kubirri Aged Care Plus Centre in Mossman.

The newly built centre is scheduled to open in early 2019, and will create positive environment for older Australians, while driving long term employment opportunities, and leading the way with an environmentally sustainable design to minimise an environmental footprint.

Hon John McVeigh, Minister for Regional Development and Federal Leichhardt MP Warren Entsch announced the successful funding recipients at a private event at the Cairns Tennis Centre earlier today. Aged Care Plus is one of 21 projects in the Queensland region to have secured the funding, each a locally led pilot enabling different regions to determine local priorities and growth industries to drive economic growth and create jobs.

Chief Executive Officer for Aged Care Plus, Sharon Callister, says that funding will assist with building Kubirri Aged Care Plus Centre, a state-of-the-art facility that will provide a loving home for 42 older Australians, giving high priority of access to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, those who are financially or socially disadvantaged and people from rural and remote areas.

"The Salvation Army Aged Care Plus is committed to caring for older Australians from all walks of life, cultural backgrounds and religions, and the Kubirri Aged Care Plus Centre will provide industry leading physical, emotional and spiritual care. This funding enables us to enhance their lives through modern facilities, including world leading solar energy generation and storage technology." Sharon said.

The $220 million Regional Jobs and Investment Packages (RJIP) supports the Australian Government's commitment to stimulate economic growth in Australian regions. The program's intended outcomes are to drive economic growth and create jobs in ten pilot regions by investing in projects that will diversify regional economies, stimulate long term growth, deliver sustainable employment and enable applicants to enter new markets and sectors.
