The Black and White Silver Memories Ball

The Black and White Silver Memories Ball

The sixth annual Ball at The Cairns Aged Care Plus Centre in Brisbane was held on the evening of the 18th of July 2018 - the biggest social event at the Centre each year. This year's theme was 'Black and White Silver Memories Ball', inspired by the Centre Manager's uniform, and the nostalgia television channel that our residents enjoy.

The occasion was set up like a night at the Oscars with small statuettes, black and white balloon trees, sparkling black, silver and golden table centrepieces, and black, white and silver streamers from a giant golden globe in the centre of the ballroom above the dance floor.

"Everyone looked splendid in smart casual-casual black and white evening attire. I led as the master of ceremony, and our Director of Mission, Captain Terri Goodwin blessed the event and gave the Dinner Grace."

Patroness of the Ball, Area Manager Northern region, Ms. Sue Holton-Brown honoured us with her presence and gave the keynote address.

As tradition, entertainment was provided by the talented Centenary High School Jazz Band, performing music from the movies. When I announced, 'let the Ball begin' the theme song from Star Wars started, followed with music from The Sound of Music, Gone with the Wind, Driving Miss Daisy and The Love Boat.

Guests thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment, and dined to an elegant selection of soup, savouries and dessert. Sparkling non-alcoholic wine flowed as residents and staff danced the evening away.

Volunteers were waiters and waitresses, and the chef's son made a fabulous giant trifle parfait to finish the night. Our official photographer, Captain Jeff Goodwin captured the event in all its glory.

The hugely popular event finished with a glow as the Acting Centre Manager, Mrs. Sukhminder Gill gave thanks and presented a cheque on behalf of very grateful residents to the band.

Our wonderful residents and their guests still recall the happiness of the occasion, long after the Ball was over.
