Welcome

James Barker House is a well recognised and highly respected aged care centre in the Footscray community.

We take pride in our services and specialise in providing 24 hour care for all older people, including those who are marginalised or at risk of becoming homeless. Our tailored programs are designed to uphold the wellbeing and dignity of our residents and empower them to lead a healthy and happy lifestyle.

The Centre spreads out to eight wings, each with easy access to dining, lounge, living rooms, activity rooms, courtyards and the cinema.

We are close to public transport with easy access to local markets, cafes and other amenities. The Centre bus is available for scheduled day trips and we work closely with families and local communities to maintain those connections for the overall wellbeing of our residents.

Our Services

James Barker House offers 24-hour permanent and short term (respite) carememory support and palliative care.

We also have dedicated wings for residents with mental and behavioural health issues and have special procedures and programs to support them in staying safe, comfortable and happy.

Residents trust that they are in good hands with our care team of fully qualified and committed individuals who share The Salvation Army's values of integrity, compassion, respect, diversity and collaboration.

Each staff member has undergone reference and security checks to ensure they are fully qualified, experienced and are passionate about working in the aged care sector. Emotional intelligence and sensitivity to diversity are other key factors in recruiting our people.

Meals are cooked daily onsite by a qualified chef in consultation with the dietician. The menu is rotated regularly to promote choice and take advantage of what is in season.
