Neelam's Impact at Mountain View

“I’ve always had a strong sense of empathy and desire to care for others,” tells Care Service Employee, Neelam who has been working at Mountain View for nine years. “The aged care sector felt like a natural fit for me, as it allows me to make a real difference in people’s lives.”
Neelam first started as a Care Service Employee, before progressing to a Team Leader and, consequently, as a mentor to other staff. The progression of her role, Neelam believes, can be accredited to her commitment and her work ethic. “I’ve always focused on bringing the team together, supporting them, and ensuring we all succeed,” she says. “Over the years, I’ve embraced the responsibility of mentoring others and fostering a work environment where everyone can grow.”
Neelam states: “Rather than just telling my team what to do, I prefer to work alongside them, guiding and supporting them to ensure we achieve our goals together,” before going on to say, “Leadership isn’t just about holding a title; it’s about being there for your team and setting the right example. By fostering a collaborative environment, I ensure that everyone feels valued, and we can achieve our shared goals in a smooth and effective manner.”
The Centre’s Manager, Suman also speaks highly of Neelam, particularly regarding her work ethic and capability as a leader. “Neelam is proactive and hardworking, supporting her staff so well. She teaches junior staff members and praises them accordingly, whilst providing necessary constructive feedback where needed.”
On a personal note, Neelam’s own values of professionalism, humour and empathy influence her work. “My approach is deeply influenced by the values I grew up with and the wonderful mentors I’ve had along the way,” she explains. “I was fortunate to learn from people who were not only professional, but also kind, humorous and understanding I learned that leading with empathy creates stronger connections, and humour lightens difficult moments, helping to keep the team motivated.”
Indeed, such a mentor who shaped Neelam’s approach, was her previous Team Leader, Joy. “I learnt so much from her work ethic and approach, particularly during my placement when I provided palliative care under her guidance,” Neelam says. “Joy taught me the importance of attention to detail and compassionate care.”
Reflecting on the joys of her role, Neelam notes there are indeed many within an aged care setting. “I love engaging with my team and the residents,” she explains. “Every day brings a new challenge, and I enjoy navigating those with the team, discussing different topics and making sure everyone, from residents to staff, feels included and supported.”
A team member she works alongside at the Centre, Zaranaben, also reflects on her unique strength as a team leader and mentor. “Neelam has been with us for an impressive 09 years, and throughout her tenure, she has not only excelled as a CSE (Team Leader) but has become a go-to mentor and advisor for many of us, including myself.”
For those considering a career in aged care, Neelam’s review is overwhelmingly positive. “The opportunity to work with older adults, hear their stories and provide them with the care they deserve is incredibly rewarding.” Her advice for the next generation in the workforce? “Be kind, continue improving,” before noting the power of working in a role that can make an impact on individuals every day. “It’s a role where I can combine my compassion and dedication to making someone’s day a little easier and brighter.”
