The Cairns Centre Celebrates Opening of New Pavilion with Naming Ceremony
The Cairns Aged Care Plus Centre at Chapel Hill, Queensland, has recently celebrated the completion of a significant refurbishment with a Naming Ceremony at the newly opened pavilion on 29 January.
There was a marvellous turnout at the ceremony with over forty attendees; including residents, families, staff members and key personnel from The Salvation Army Aged Care Plus and The Rohrig Group. Special guests included Doctor Christian Rowan, the MP for Moggill, Steven Ball, Acting CEO of The Salvation Army Aged Care Plus and retired Territorial Commander, Commissioner James Condon.
As part of the opening, Commissioner Condon unveiled the name of the pavilion as 'Jacaranda Room' and congratulated Jan Rudolph, daughter of resident, Maud Goschnick, who won the Centre's naming competition, held in December.
Centre Manager for The Cairns Aged Care Plus Centre at Chapel Hill, Tania da Fonseca, enjoyed seeing the event bring residents, families and community members together.
"I feel very privileged to celebrate this wonderful achievement with our staff and residents. The naming competition was a lovely way of involving staff and residents in the opening on a personal level, and it was heartwarming to see Jan's face light up with glee when her entry was revealed as the winning name," Tania said.
"I'd have to say that the highlight of the day was receiving compliments from both DR Christian Rowan (MP) and our residents. Overall residents remarked that they can now sit outside and remain cool in the comfort of the pavilion, whilst seeing the world around them. This has made their home a better place," she continued.
The Cairns Aged Care Plus Centre at Chapel Hill is a loving home to more than 120 older Australians and provides award winning dementia, palliative and spiritual care.
