Why Work With Us?

Every person is unique, with their own life story, history, likes and dislikes. We have a holistic approach to care where we commit to meeting the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of our residents and clients.

We are looking for individuals who share The Salvation Army's values to make a real difference in the lives of some of the most vulnerable members of our community. As an employee, you will be supported at work and throughout your career to ensure that you can uphold these values while finding your work rewarding.

As a not-for-profit organisation, The Salvation Army Aged Care employees have access to salary packaging. Under this arrangement, employees can receive part of their pre-tax salary in the form of non-cash benefits. This can include items like car (novated lease), mortgage, rent and living expenses. Additional benefits such as meals, entertainment and accommodation can also be included. By receiving these benefits before the tax is applied, employees reduce their taxable income and therefore increase their take-home pay.

This benefit is available to all employees.

We value people of all cultures, languages, abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expressions and intersex status.

With over fifty languages spoken amongst our workforce, we have a remarkably diverse workforce that contributes to a rich work culture.

As a workplace and organisation, we are proudly committed to being fully inclusive.

Training Programs to Kickstart Your Career

For those thinking of starting their career in aged care, our programs are designed to help you get the necessary qualifications, training and guidance to begin your journey in this rewarding industry.

For more information about our programs, please email us at agedcarerecruitment@salvationarmy.org.au

To work as a Care Service Employee with us, you traditionally would require a Certificate III in Individual Support or similar qualification. In the Earn & Learn program, you will be given the opportunity to work at The Salvation Army Aged Care as a Care Service Employee while you complete your Certificate III in Individual Support or a similar qualification. This program is available in all our locations across Australia.

A traineeship is a type of vocational training that combines both work and learning. In contrast to most aged care courses that blend theoretical and practical training, traineeships prioritise practical experience. By combining theoretical and employment-based learning, traineeships aim to provide learners with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills required for a successful career.

In the case of aged care traineeships, you will study via a workplace delivery mode while working in one of our aged care services. Most traineeships take between 1-2 years to complete, allowing for a rapid acquisition of knowledge and skills without getting overwhelmed by coursework. Traineeships emphasise hands-on experience to improve practical understanding of the sector.

Government incentives are available for trainees under our program.

The New Graduate Registered Nurse Program is a professional development program designed to support and train newly graduated Registered Nurses in the aged care sector.

The program empowers nurses to adopt a critical approach to identifying a person's specific needs and values, assessing their care requirements and planning and delivering the most appropriate individualised care.

A team of experienced Registered Nurses will support and mentor all participants, and a Graduating Certificate will be presented upon completion of the program.

Workplace training offers a unique range of benefits that classroom-based learning does not provide.

  • Earn while you learn: You will receive a regular income while working towards your qualification, relieving some financial pressure. Being paid for your time promotes a healthy work relationship, eliminates stress, and motivates you to succeed.
  • Gain practical experience: The best way to be prepared for what to expect in a role in aged care is through practical training. You will be provided with opportunities to witness real-time operations and develop relationships with experienced staff who will guide and support you.
  • Discover career opportunities and permanent job prospects: Many trainees secure permanent employment with us. You will have gained valuable workplace experience and established contacts in the sector. Your experience will give you the confidence to impress future employers and excel in any role you choose.
